Nene Commissioning is an award-winning community interest company set up in 2007 by GPs across Northamptonshire. We now cover 76 practices with 350 GPs serving a population of 657,000. The company was formed to allow local GPs to become involved in commissioning new and improved local health services. This is also known as “practice-based commissioning” or PBC. PBC ensures that decisions about investment and change in local health services are made by the doctors who work most closely with local people. Even though we are a large consortium we work in such a way that every GP practice can have a say in the way services are developed, so that we can remain as “local” as possible.
We work closely with NHS Northamptonshire and a number of other partner organisations and associate members. We are particularly keen to work with more local people including patients, carers and their representatives. This might involve consultation with you on service changes and discussion of our priorities. We might want to seek your views as service users or carers so that we can ensure new services are meeting your needs. This could be as simple as responding to an e-mail through to attendance at meetings with us. If you would like to become more involved in our work then please fill in our associates form.
We are also the lead organisation for the Northamptonshire Integrated Care Partnership which is looking at developing new models of long-term condition management to help patients remain independent for longer and have more choice in their end of life care.
